This papar analyzes the deterrninant factors of R & D expenditures in the industrial sectors of the Spanish economy during the period 1987-1989. The cross-sections and panel data estimations show that the size of the market and the technological opportunities are the main variables that explain the interindustrial differences on the R & D activies.
