In this article we investigate the use of different search methods adopted by unemployed workers and the overall search intensity. A job search model is presented that relates search method choices to their costs in time, and money and expected productivities, among other factors. The empirical analysis is based on data from Encuesta Sociodemográfica from the Valencia Region (1988). Econometric evidence shows that chosen search methods and their number (intensity) is affected by so-cioeconomic and individual characteristics, which reflect needs and costs as well as income sources and expected productivities.

Keywords: search method and unemployment, multinomial and ordered logit models.
