EUROPAN INTEGRATION AND TRADE DEFICIT: AN ESTIMATION FOR SPAIN (1986-1990)

In this paper the effects of Spanish integration into the E.E.C. on our trade flows of manufactures are assessed over the period 1986-1990. The model used is the gravity equation and the methodological contribution lies in the antimonde's dynamical estimation by means of the Kalman filter. The main empirical outcome is that the postintegration structure is statistically different from the preintegration one and the impact of EEC membership accounts for a significant part of the observed commercial deficit.
