In this paper and within the context of the most recent literature, we present a survey on the main effects that economic integration might have both on the growth of the participating economies, and the possibility of real convergence among them. The paper concludes with a brief examination of the Spanish and European experiences, together with a discussion of some points related to the operation of regional policy.
