This paper investigates firm survival as a function of the utilization of the capacity in an industry. An important novelty of the paper is that it explores differences in survival probability for firms of different ownership forms cooperative and non-cooperative producers, controlling the degree of capacity utilization. The empirical part of the paper draws from the olive oil industry in Southern Spain and the results show that cooperatives, who are also integrated into olive production, have a higher likelihood of survival than non-cooperative producers.
