The medium and long-term effects of immigration are as important as the short-term effects. This article studies the integration processes of the foreign-born population in Spain. Paper has two different objectives. The paper has two objetives. The paper has two objetives. First, to analyse the labour assimilation processes of immigrants. Second, to establish the effects of the legal framework in these processes. The article focuses on the foreign-born population from Rumania and Bulgaria that recently have undergone a deep change in their legal circumstances. Using data from the Spanish Labour Force Survey (2000-2009), we estimate the probability of being a member of the active population, of being employed and of having a fixed-term contract for these collectives. Results allow us to build labour assimilation profiles for each collective. Outcomes show that a slight but constant labour assimilation process is occurring for all the dimensions studied except fixed-term employment. From a temporal point of view, the conclusion is that the change in the legal framework has not had an important effect on the labour assimilation processes of people from Rumania and Bulgaria.
