In this article the wage distribution in Spain is modelled using parametric models and microdata from the Encuesta de Estructura Salarial. Our evidence corroborates that, as in other areas in the economic literature, these modelling techniques are also appropriate and useful in the case of wage distributions. An additional noteworthy finding is that the generalized beta distribution of the second kind is the theoretical model that better fits the empirical wage distribution of the Spanish economy.

Key words: wage distribution, parametric modelling, generalized beta distribution of the second kind.
